Jean Claude DALLOZ, President of Trans’Organisation, and his technical committee members met this afternoon for an exceptional meeting to take stock of the situation facing lack of snow and sunny weather forecasted by Météo France! Their main concern: offer a quality competition to racers coming from all over the world.
THE SAME DIRECTION, A SHORTER DISTANCE
High temperatures for the season are predicted until next Monday (+1°C in Lamoura this morning), and no snow in the near forecast for the Jura Mountains; That’s why at this point of the organization of La Transjurassienne the technical staff gathered this afternoon and took the following decisions:
-
The direction Lamoura – Mouthe is maintained
-
The facilities of the finish area will be set in Mouthe as planned (tent for public, changing room, racers’ restaurant…). Shuttles will transport the racers to the finish line if the finish line is not in Mouthe.
-
The 76 Km event on Sunday will be reduced to 55 or 50 Km.
AN ORGANISED SNOW COVERAGE IMPOSSIBLE IN THE CURRENT SITUATION
The snow lacks so cruelly that there is no extra reserve of snow that could be brought in to reinforce the track. The mass of snow available would barely be sufficient to patch some parts of the trail, it would be impossible to create an entire course.
The start and finish areas will be decided on next Monday, depending on the snow conditions and the weather forecast for the week.
LES ROUSSES / MOUTHE STILL A POSSIBILITY
Today the course Les Rousses/Mouthe is still conceivable, with the support of the surrounding communities and departments that will have their work cut out for them in snow preparation.
It will only be possible for the 2007 edition to take place through the combined efforts of the villages along the race course, the technical teams and the volunteers, all working together with Trans’Organisation … and Mother Nature!
The final decision will be taken on Monday 5th February with the approval of M. le Sous Préfet and the concerned state services.
The online registration deadline is moved to Tuesday 6th February 2007 at midnight.

WORLD CUP TRANSJURASSIENNE
EXPECTATIONS ARE BLOWN AWAY...
In October, after the turnaround of the FIS position regarding the participation of long distance events in the World Cup, Trans’Organisation was expecting an official confirmation and was hoping for a change of mind from the president Gianfranco KASPER.
Following the death of Marc Holder, the FIS president from 1951 to 1998, the meeting with the FFS and the FIS initially planned on October 31st was postponed until the beginning of November, when the FFS could at last meet with the FIS and plead on La Transju’s behalf!
Following this meeting, the FFS provided a few details from the FIS to Trans’Organisation: the International Federation does not wish to exclude the long distance events from the World Cup Label “under the condition that the date does not interfere with the World Cup and that the event can insure the participation of almost all the best skiers’’…
Which implies the exclusion of some Worldloppet events since their calendar is validated more than 2 years in advance.
Today, one day after the FIS council meeting that took place on Monday, November 20 in Oberhofen, Trans’Organisation understands that being part of the 2008 World Cup calendar is hopeless.
Although in 28 editions, la Transjurassienne has only once been part of the World Cup, this has not prevented it from becoming more and more popular among recreational skiers as well as professionals worldwide.
It has grown and has been pleasing its public throughout its 28 editions, and certainly counts on continuing in the same direction…

TRANSJURASSIENNE REPORT AND FUTURE...
Edition 2006, a great year:
For the last 3 winters, La Transjurassienne has enjoyed ideal conditions: good snow, cold weather, high participation... last February, La Transjurassienne passed the 8000 participants mark, all events included!
This could not have happened without the involvement of the institutional sponsors, partners as well as volunteers who make La Transjurassienne a quality event, with international recognition.
Edition 2007, two days, two styles!
For technical and practical reasons, and in order to satisfy both the recreational participants and the elite, the general meeting decided that the Saturday would be dedicated to the classic style events only (Transju'Classic, MiniTrans and Trans'Promotion), and the Sunday to the free style events (76 and 54km, men and women). See you on February 10 and 11, 2007...
Edition 2008, our application was accepted for the World Cup 2008
Like in 2000, La Transjurassienne will be once again be part of the World Cup Circuit, since the FIS accepted its 2008 application in the internationalCongress that took place in Villamoura, Portugal, from May 22 to May 24. La Transjurassienne will then welcome the world best skiers who will race the 50km Women's and the 76km Men's events on February 10.
A great moment in perspective, and a great challenge for Trans'Organisation who must meet all the financial and technical constraints that such an event requires.
The deadline and final decision is the beginning of September, which gives the organisation time to consult its partners and confirm its participation.
Everyone remembers what a remarkable edition the 2000 World Cup was, and that wonderful opportunities it brought to our region at an international level...
Next step : obtain evereyone's support.
We will keep you posted!

TRANSJU / KESKINADA
A FULLFILLING EXCHANGE
The facts:
For the 2006 editions of La Transjurassienne and Keskinada, both part of the Worldloppet Ski Federation, the organizers initiated an exchange. About 10 quebecois came to France and participated in La Transjurassienne... in turn, a few more French flew to Canada on February 14!
What a warm welcome!
The French Ambassador in Canada, Daniel Jouanneau, himself greeted the 20 members of the Transjurassienne delegation and everywhere the French visitors went, they received the same warm welcome.
A large and well located booth had been set up in honor of la Transju', the guest star of this edition... All week long, the President Jean-Claude DALLOZ as well as the Trans'Organisation members attracted many people and answered numerous questions from the racers. "Even if most people do not know France very well, they have all heard of La Transjurassienne and dream of participating in our French event", commented William TRACHSEL, the Trans'Organisation Coordinator. "We were offered a great opportunity to promote our region and partners", underlined the President Jean-Claude DALLOZ.
The children's race, in a French way
Blue, white and red flags marked out the children's Keskinada race that was run on the same wwek-end as the other events. 400 ski hats offered by Trans'Organisation decorated the young quebecois' heads... And the French Ambassador gave the start of the race: it felt like the Transjeune!
Best of all: a French skier mounted the podium, with a 3rd place in the 53km free style event. His name is Lucien BOURGEOIS.
A great exchange to repeat on the future, and why not with other long distance races worldwide?...

28th TRANSJURASSIENNE : CORSA FRESCA !
Victory of the Italians Roberto DE ZOLT & Anna SANTER
It was really freezing today in the heart of the Jura Mountains ! The temperature was -20°C at 8.30 am in Lamoura this morning. The snow was cold, not very slippery, but the good surprise was that the Northern wind was weaker than expected.
For a moment we thought we were at the OG in Torino, since the Italians who were the favourites won both the 76km and the 54 km !
Razzia for the first places of the podium !
Men 76km... A race with twists and turns...
The Italian Marco CATTANEO led the race for a while, then begun to flag 7 km from the finish line, which gave the Italians the oppportunity to take over. He finishes at the 9th place.
The Italian Roberto DE ZOLT wins La Transju for the second time after his victory in 2002, in 3H 17mn and 36s. An injury in 2002 kept him away from the circuit, but the efficient summer trainig brought him back to shape. "This is my best 2005/2006 long distance race" he said at the finish line.
The second place is won by Ivanov ALEKSEY, 26 years old, from the Bielorussian National Team, who was unable to participate in the OG for which he was selected because of a personal problem.
And then we find 2 Italians at the 3rd and 4th places, Pier Luigi CONSTANTIN and Tullio GRANDELIS. They are followed by the 2 favourites Silvio FAUNER (Italian, 50km World Champion in 1995) and Daniel TYNELL (Swedish, Winner of 2002 Vasaloppet) who win the 5th and 6th places.
The 1st French is Stéphane PASSERON who is experienced in the Transjurassienne podiums... This was his last participation. He ranks 7th.
Didier ROY from Pontarliler was particpating for the 11th time. He was very well prepared and motivated, but he knew there was tough competition this year. He comes in 14th.
Women 54km, an Italian pace !
The 54km Elite Women is won by the Italians Anna SANTER and Lara PEYROT, followed by the Finn Susanna NEVALA. The Italians broke away at the Risoux climb, and took terms until the end of the race. Anna SANTER often led the group, as she had already run the race in 2001. She ranked 20th then.
The 1st French is Christelle JOUILLE from Franche Comté, ranking 8th , followed by her compatriot Célia BOURGEOIS at the 9th place although she was expected on the podium for her fisrt Transju !
Main results :

LA TRANSJEUNE - 17th Edition
A beautiful curtain raiser !
What a nice crowd in Les Rousses on that beautiful sunny day! Buses coming from many places (from the departments #01, 25, 39, 74, ans also from CZE) were taking the children to the 17th Transjeune.
3265 children exactly, aged 7 to 19 were gathering for performance, unforgettable falls in the snow and moments of really good laugh !
A preview of the OG?
In 1989, 200 participants run the 1st Transjeune. 17 years later, they are 15 times more participants and the Transju spirit is still there : it is about sharing a sporting and friendly event in the heart of a beautiful Nordic scenery.
Famous regional competitors were there to show the way : Manu JONNIER, Elodie BOURGEOIS-PIN, for their last outing before the OG, Simon HENRIET, Denis LACROIX, Philippe GRANDCLEMENT...
A few cries, a few scratches but no serious injury... They all left with the bright memory of a day full of emotions.
2006 will be rememebered as an exceptional year, where last year's best skiers confirmed their supremacy and where the future Transju favourites are already attracting attention...

On the morning of the race, your breakfast should be light and include : bread and butter, jam, ham, tea or coffee and fruit juice. It must be taken 2 or 3 hours before the race in order to avoid digestive troubles ( vomiting, side aches ...).
It is also possible to reduce the use of your carbohydrates stock: by an appropriate endurance training that helps your body save its "super fuel", and by limiting you exposure to the cold before the race, because it generates a significant loss of energy; the informed skier will undress at the very last moment.
During the race, it is important to limit dehydration though perspiration and exhaustion, by frequently drinking small quantities of sweet drinks. Take advantage of fruit that contain sugar, minerals and vitamins. Food stand are located all along the trail.
After the race, it is necessary to rebuild your stock for the next events. Your diet should mainly consist in liquids (sweet drinks, tea, soup, milk), slow carbohydrates (the exhausted muscles require them) and minerals (broth, fruit...). You will avoid meat that generates waste of which your muscles are already saturated.
Choosing the right equipment:
For classic or skating technique, the competition skis have common characteristics:
*The structure: In order to obtain a perfect compromise between lightness, firmness and an appropriate cambre, the makers generally use a honeycomb core reinforced by carbon fibers. Competition skis are very difficult to adjustand the makers often still use wood and stratified material to assure a balanced flexibility from tip to tail.
*The base: It is usually made out of plastic, with additional graphite. Most makers offer a wide range of ski bases adapted to each type of snow. The preparation of the base is very important in terms of performance: standard grooves are carved in the skis, and the racers can add specific grooves according to the snow conditions.
*The cambre: Even if a ski has been perfectly prepared, it may not glide if its cambre is not adapted to the skier. The skis are submitted to pressures that can vary with the hardness of the snow. That is the reason why the makers offer skis with various flexbility according to the snow conditions.
*The size: The new materials offer the possibility to build rather short skis. But if you make short ski harder, you generate frictional resistance; that is why the competition skis remain quite long.
How should you choose your skis?
The key point is the ski flexibility. It must not be too hard in order to allow a good slige at a moderate speed, but still offer good stability. Do not hesitate to test several pairs of skis until you find the right skis, adapted to your technique and strength. And you need at least two pairs of skis per technique (classic and skating) in order to face all snow conditions.
A well trained team for an efficient organization:
The large team of the Transju volunteers is made up of about 1000 people striving each year to keep La Transju alive! Retired people, club members, ski addicts, people from Le Doubs and Le Jura departments, all have in common the heavy responsibility to make everything smooth! La Transju, they support it wholeheartedly!
Food stands: It is important to contact partners and suppliers (dried Agen prunes, Vuez biscuits, Thonon water, Clément Faugier chestnut paste, Routes du Comté cheese, Morbier cheese, Raguin cancoillotte, Nutrition sport Maxim, Nesquik and Hyper U) early enough to have everything delivered on time and in sufficient quantity, before dispatching the goods to the various food stands. Registrations: The mail must be sorted and answered back when a file is incomplete... The bibs and the clothing bags offered to the participants must be prepared... And of course, the ski trail must be groomed, the participants security and reception must be under control, as well as the catering... Enough work to keep the 1000 volunteers busy for several months before the D-days.
And let's not forget the 5 permanent Trans'Organisation members who prepare this event 12 months a year...

In order not to forget the death of Nathan, his mother Mrs Dubois and her family created the association "Nathan, Graine de soleil", sponsored by Vincent Defrasne, whose objective is to offer sick children the opportunity to spend a few days in the Massif Jurassien.
During the Transjeune, a contest game will be organized.
